Dr. Normand Racine is a distinguished cardiologist and full professor in the Department of Medicine at Université de Montréal. Since 2009, he has also been a researcher at the Montreal Heart Institute (ICM) Research Center.

Academic Background and Career

Dr. Racine graduated in medicine from Université de Montréal in 1983 and completed his cardiology specialization at McGill University, earning his certification in 1989. He served as Chair of the Department of Medicine at ICM from 2006 to 2015 and held the Philippa and Marvin Carsley Chair in Cardiology at Université de Montréal until 2015.

Currently, he is the Medical Director of the Heart Transplantation and Ventricular Assistance Program at ICM, where he plays a pivotal role in advancing care for patients with severe heart failure.

In 2003, Dr. Racine co-founded the Société québécoise d’insuffisance cardiaque (SQIC) alongside fellow cardiologists and nurses. This provincial multidisciplinary network brings together teams of physicians, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, and physiotherapists to optimize heart failure patient care. With 45 clinics across different hospitals, the SQIC has become Canada’s largest heart failure care network.
