Dr. Gilles O’Hara is a renowned cardiologist practicing at the Institut universitaire de cardiologie et de pneumologie de Québec (IUCPQ).

A graduate of the Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Medicine, Dr. O’Hara completed his residency in internal medicine at the Université de Sherbrooke before returning to the Université de Montréal to finalize his training in cardiology.

Keen to refine his expertise, he pursued specialized training in electrophysiology through a fellowship under the guidance of Professors Pedro Brugada and Hein J.J. Wellens in Maastricht, Netherlands. Subsequently, he deepened his understanding of fundamental electrophysiology in Montreal, working with Dr. Stan Nattel.

A pioneer in electrophysiology in Canada, Dr. O’Hara has made substantial contributions to improving care for patients with complex cardiovascular diseases.

He is distinguished by his unwavering passion for his work, as well as his dedication to teaching and research. Actively involved in innovative projects, he strives to enhance diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in cardiology. An academic researcher affiliated with Université Laval, he has authored over 100 scientific publications, focusing primarily on medicine and atrial fibrillation.

Throughout his career, Dr. O’Hara has also been associated with prestigious institutions such as the Montreal Heart Institute and the University of Pittsburgh.
