Medical and Academic Training
Dr. Frédéric Jacques completed his medical degree at Université Laval in 2004. He then pursued specialized training in cardiac surgery at Université de Montréal from 2004 to 2010.
During this period, he also obtained a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from Université de Montréal in 2008, reflecting his strong interest in research and the advancement of knowledge in cardiovascular surgery.
Specialized Training in Congenital Cardiac Surgery
To further develop his expertise, Dr. Jacques completed additional training in congenital cardiac surgery at internationally recognized centers.
He first completed a two-year clinical fellowship at University of Toronto, where he specialized in the surgical management of congenital heart defects.
He then pursued an additional year of training at Harvard University in Boston, also focused on congenital cardiac surgery.
Clinical Practice in Quebec City
Upon returning to Quebec City in 2013, Dr. Jacques joined Dr. Jean Perron as a congenital cardiac surgeon.
He practices at both:
This dual practice allows him to care for patients with congenital heart disease across all age groups, from childhood to adulthood.
In adult cardiac surgery, Dr. Jacques also has a particular interest in the surgical management of cardiac arrhythmias.
Teaching and Training
Dr. Jacques is a Clinical Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Université Laval and is actively involved in teaching medical students and residents.
Since 2017, he has also served as Program Director of the Cardiac Surgery Residency Program at Université Laval, contributing to the training of the next generation of cardiac surgeons.
Clinical, Academic, and Scientific Involvement
In addition to his clinical and teaching activities, Dr. Jacques is involved in research in cardiac surgery, contributing to the development and improvement of surgical techniques and patient care for individuals with heart disease.
