About Annalisa Maggio

Researcher in Immunometabolism
Research Fellow – University of California San Diego (UCSD)

Education

Dr. Annalisa Maggio completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Medical Biotechnology, followed by a Master of Science (MSc) in Medical Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine, with a specialization in neuroscience.

She then pursued a PhD in immunometabolism, focusing on the interactions between the immune system and metabolic processes.

Academic and Scientific Background

Before starting her PhD, Dr. Maggio gained research experience at University College London (UCL), where she developed expertise in immunotherapy, particularly in chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) technologies applied to brain tumors.

She later worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, where she studied protein–protein interactions in models of Parkinson’s disease.

Current Research

Dr. Maggio’s research focuses on immunometabolism, particularly on interferon regulation of lipid metabolism in atherosclerosis.

Her work aims to better understand the mechanisms contributing to increased cardiovascular risk in patients with autoimmune diseases.

Current Position and Research Environment

Dr. Maggio currently lives and works in San Diego, where she is a Research Fellow at the University of California San Diego (UCSD).

She conducts her research in a multidisciplinary environment, focusing on the interactions between inflammation, metabolism, and cardiovascular diseases.
