Dr. Alexis Matteau obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Montreal in 2004. He subsequently completed his postgraduate training at the same institution, including a residency in Internal Medicine followed by specialty training in Adult Cardiology from 2007 to 2010.
Seeking to further develop his expertise in clinical research and the evaluation of cardiovascular therapies, he completed a Master of Science (MSc) in Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health from 2011 to 2012.
He then pursued advanced fellowship training in Interventional Cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, from 2012 to 2013. This subspecialty training allowed him to develop advanced expertise in the percutaneous treatment of complex coronary arteryThe two coronary arteries, the right and the left, form the blood network that supplies the heart with oxygen and nutrients. They are located directly on the surface of the heart and branch into smaller vessels that disease.
Academic Appointments and Leadership Roles
Since 2013, Dr. Matteau has practiced as an interventional cardiologist at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) and at Charles-Le Moyne Hospital.
He is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Montreal, where he is actively involved in teaching and training the next generation of cardiologists.
Dr. Matteau also serves as Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Charles-Le Moyne Hospital. In addition, he is Chair of the Research Committee of the University of Montreal Cardiology Program.
At CHUM, he is Co-Director of the Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) Percutaneous Revascularization Program, a specialized program dedicated to the management of complex coronary arteryThe two coronary arteries, the right and the left, form the blood network that supplies the heart with oxygen and nutrients. They are located directly on the surface of the heart and branch into smaller vessels that disease, particularly chronic total occlusions (CTOs).
His research activities focus on the evaluation of novel cardiovascular therapies and emerging technologies in interventional cardiology. His work aims to optimize cardiovascular care by integrating the best available scientific evidence into contemporary clinical practice.
