About Philippe L’Allier

Dr Philippe L’Allier is an interventional cardiologist, hemodynamic specialist, and researcher at the Montreal Heart Institute, where he currently serves as Director of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation.

He has been practicing at the Montreal Heart Institute since 2000. Over the years, he has held several leadership positions, including Director of the Coronary Care Unit (2006–2010), Director of Interventional Cardiology (2010–2018), and Director of Prevention and Rehabilitation since 2018.

Training

Dr L’Allier obtained his medical degree in 1992 from the Université de Sherbrooke.

He completed his training in internal medicine and obtained Royal College certification in 1996. He then pursued cardiology training at the Université de Montréal, obtaining certification in 1997.

He subsequently completed subspecialty training in interventional cardiology and clinical research at the Montreal Heart Institute (1997–1998) and at the Cleveland Clinic (1998–2000).

Teaching and Academic Involvement

Dr L’Allier is a Clinical Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal. He is actively involved in training residents and fellows in clinical cardiology, interventional cardiology, and cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation.

He is also a frequent invited speaker at national and international scientific meetings.

Areas of Expertise

His clinical practice focuses on interventional cardiology, hemodynamics, acute coronary care, and cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation.

He has recognized expertise in:

  • complex percutaneous coronary interventions
  • intravascular imaging and physiology
  • acute coronary syndromes
  • high-risk cardiovascular rehabilitation

 

Clinical and Research Interests

His clinical and research work focuses primarily on atherosclerosis, particularly plaque imaging, vascular inflammation, and the development of new therapies.

He is involved in numerous international randomized clinical trials, where he plays key leadership roles, including chair of clinical events committees, national coordinator, and member of executive committees. He also serves as a clinical investigator in multiple studies.

Dr L’Allier has authored more than 75 peer-reviewed scientific publications and over 15 book chapters.

Prevention and Healthy Lifestyle

Dr L’Allier is also involved with the ÉPIC Center, a center dedicated to promoting cardiovascular health and healthy lifestyle habits.

Professional Involvement

In addition to his clinical, academic, and research activities, Dr L’Allier has served as President of the Association of Cardiologists of Quebec.
