He specializes in minimally invasive cardiac surgery, an approach aimed at reducing surgical trauma and promoting faster recovery.<\/p><p><strong>Training<\/strong><\/p><p>Dr Ghoneim completed dual residencies in cardiac surgery at Cairo University and McGill University.<\/p><p>He further pursued advanced training through fellowships at the Montreal Heart Institute, Western University, and Institut universitaire de cardiologie et de pneumologie de Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p><p><strong>Professional Career<\/strong><\/p><p>Before joining CHUM, Dr Ghoneim founded and directed Saskatchewan\u2019s first Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) Program. This initiative enabled the introduction of advanced surgical techniques that significantly improved patient outcomes.<\/p><p>He performed several first-in-province procedures, including:<\/p><ul><li>AMDS implantation for acute Type A aortic dissection<\/li><li>minimally invasive mitral valve repair using Chord-X<\/li><li>valve-sparing aortic root replacement<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Areas of Expertise<\/strong><\/p><p>His clinical practice focuses on:<\/p><ul><li>minimally invasive cardiac surgery<\/li><li>valve surgery, including advanced mitral repair<\/li><li>aortic surgery<\/li><li>complex cardiac procedures requiring advanced techniques<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Clinical and Research Interests<\/strong><\/p><p>Dr Ghoneim has a strong interest in innovation in cardiac surgery, particularly in the development and integration of less invasive techniques to improve patient outcomes and recovery.<\/p><p>His areas of interest include:<\/p><ul><li>minimally invasive surgical approaches<\/li><li>advanced valve repair<\/li><li>aortic disease<\/li><li>optimization of care pathways<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Teaching and Academic Involvement<\/strong><\/p><p>Dr Ghoneim plays an active role in training future cardiac surgeons. He leads the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Trainee Review Program (TRP), contributing to surgical education at the national level.<\/p><p>He is also an invited speaker at national and international
